If you more or less follow my blog, would you be surprised that this cute little creature lured me into yet another reading adventure? Not only is the image adorable, it also reminds me of my longtime desire to reacquaint myself with one of the best fantasy stories I’ve ever read, The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. I read it so long ago that I hardly remember anything from it except that there was the Little Prince, the Fox and the Rose, and that the book had an aura of magic that lingers in my memory until this day.
Thanks to 50 Year Project, I got introduced to the Once Upon a Time challenge today and couldn’t resist the temptation to sign up for it. The challenge is hosted by Stainless Steel Droppings and runs between March 21 and June 19.
“This is a reading and viewing event that encompasses four broad categories: Fairy Tale, Folklore, Fantasy and Mythology, including the seemingly countless sub-genres and blending of genres that fall within this spectrum.”
There are different levels of participation in this event. At this point, I’ve chosen the Short Story Quest. I’ve got this wonderful book called “Bedtime Stories” that includes 18 short stories — all written by great writers of the past two centuries. Every Sunday I will write a post about a story from the book. I would also like to include The Little Prince on my list of readings and other books in the fantasy genre, simply because I am a big fan of it and will read these books any time of the year, reading challenge or not. 🙂
If you would like to join the fun, please visit Stainless Steel Droppings and sign up.

Sounds like fun. I’m overloaded…but I’d like to read your posts!
I hear you. I am overloaded too. But my love for fantasy knows no bounds 🙂 I will look forward to your comments!
I wish time would allow me to get more involved with outside activities. This looks like a fun little event. I look forward to reading your reviews, Natalie, as you keep us posted with reminders of the classics. 🙂
I agree, more time would be helpful. I find it hard juggling a job, a family, blogging, writing and other things that I would like to be doing. I admire people like you who manage to be successful bloggers and at the same time stay focused on their main projects. It takes a lot of willpower and determination. Thanks for commenting and have a great day!
Thank you, Natalie. I admire you as well, I am awed that you find the time to keep up with it all, then add more. I used to be able to do 20 things at once, but now, I try to focus on one, or two things at a time. I am in no hurry, though I do try to stay on schedule once I set a deadline. You have a great day yourself. 🙂 Don’t push too hard, Rome wasn’t built in a day, or so they say. Stress will eventually take its tole.
I’m so glad you found out about it and decided to join us. I can certainly understand the time crunch that people talk about. That was the inspiration for the one book option that I added a couple of years ago. I wanted to have a no pressure way for folks to join in, especially as the event is all about sharing our passions for books, not about hitting some forced goal.
I am sure glad I’ve discovered the challenge. I really like how you tiered it so that more people can enjoy it. Thank you for hosting the event!
You are welcome. It really is a pleasure.
Yippie! I’m so glad you joined. I reread The Little Prince last year and that is one of the best books. He is so cute and innocent. I know that is a book I’ll read over and over. I’m excited to hear about your short stories. This will be so much fun. Happy reading!
Happy reading to you too! And thanks for being such a great inspiration to me!
I look forward to hearing about the short stories in that collection!
Hi, i checked out your blog, saw your impressive list of fantasy books and was going to leave a comment, but it wouldn’t let me! I think it has something to do with Blogger vs. WordPress. Anyway, wanted to say I look forward to your reviews too! Happy reading!
This looks like a fun challenge to do. I’ll go check it out. Can’t wait to read about your short stories.
Let us know if you decide to join it. I’ll keep an eye out for your posts. 🙂
The Little Prince is one of my favorite books of all time. It’s one of those books that sticks with you even as you get older, and the ending still makes me cry. I also totally used the sheep-in-a-box trick when my younger siblings used to ask me to draw stuff for them as a kid.
I remember crying over it too! Thanks for your comment!
I haven’t read The Little Prince in years…you make me want to pick it up again! I’ve read The Prince more recently, but that wasn’t anywhere near as magical. 😉
I just got a notice from the public library they’ve got a copy of the Little Prince for me. I can’t wait to listen to it – it’s an audio book, but I also ordered a hard copy, so I can do more in-depth reading. It’s great to hear that so many people had similar experience from a book. And the author wasn’t even what you call a “professional” writer. Amazing.
I love those library notices! I remember the illustrations are so special in The Little Prince too, so definitely worth getting the hard copy. 🙂 Somewhere I think I heard that the author was trying to make up images that the illustrator would struggle to draw!
It’s book covers like these that make me never want to grow up. I have a passion for children’s stories, as they containing both heavy subjects and wonderful places. I love the challenge idea, I might tag along on this…
the challenge idea is a great excuse for me to delve into my favourite genre and blog about it. And even more importantly, find those who enjoy the genre. And because I want to write fantasy, it’s a great way to get a better understanding of the audience. My son writes fantasy as well. But he is far more advanced and ambitious in his writing. Thanks for your comment!
I’m looking forward to read your thoughts on the books you choose, and your own writing!
